We Earned a Candid Seal of Transparency

When you give to a young nonprofit, you are taking a bet on strangers. We are three months past our IRS determination letter, we are asking families and local businesses for money, and we think the burden is on us to prove we are worth it. So we published everything. BeeReady now has a nonprofit profile on Candid, and it has earned a Silver Seal of Transparency.

What Candid is and why it matters

Candid is the organization formed when GuideStar and the Foundation Center merged. It maintains the largest public database of US nonprofits, and it is where grantmakers, corporate giving programs, donor-advised funds, and careful individual donors go to look an organization up. Its Seals of Transparency come in four levels, Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum, and each one is earned by publishing more about how the organization actually operates: mission, donation information, program information, financial reports or IRS filings, and leadership and board demographics. Candid reports that nonprofits with a Seal receive on average 62 percent more in contributions than organizations without one.

The part we care about is not the badge. It is that the information sits somewhere we do not control. We can write whatever we want on this website. Our Candid profile is a standardized record, structured the same way every other nonprofit in the database is structured, which makes us directly comparable to organizations that have been doing this for decades.

Where to find the seal

The seal now sits in the footer of every page on this site and on our donation page, and it links straight to the full profile. It is served live from Candid rather than saved as an image, which means it always shows our current level. When we finish the remaining sections and move up to Gold, the seal on this site will change on its own. No quiet editing on our end, and no chance of us displaying a level we no longer hold.

Silver now, Gold next

We are telling you it is Silver because it is Silver. Gold requires more financial history than a nonprofit our age has generated yet, and we would rather show you an honest Silver than describe a Gold we have not earned. We are working through the remaining profile sections now, and the seal will speak for itself when we get there.
